Commercial marine fisheries in Nunavut waters consist of two species, Greenland halibut (turbot) and northern shrimp. The fishery takes place in NAFO Divisions 0A and 0B.
For 2013, AFA has turbot allocations of 1,030MT in NAFO 0A and 400MT on 0B. In addition it also owns a competitive license that permits its vessel to harvest the competitive turbot quota in NAFO 0B.
In order to operate a year round fishery AFA has invested in the acquisition of a southern fishing license and quotas. This license permits AFA to harvest Atlantic halibut, cod, hake, and other groundfish species throughout Atlantic Canada.
