Quotas
Commercial marine fisheries in Nunavut waters consist of two species, Greenland halibut (turbot) and northern shrimp. The fishery takes place in NAFO Divisions 0A and 0B. Quotas for Nunavut fishing enterprises are determined by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans based on recommendations made by the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board through its Allocation Policy for Commercial Marine Fisheries.
In addition, AFA owns a fishing license that permits the Suvak to participate in the fixed-gear competitive turbot fishery in NAFO 0B. This license also allows AFA to fish for Atlantic halibut and groundfish in Atlantic Canada every winter, thereby extending its fishing season.
